The Ruins of Dunnottar

from $700.00

My favorite memory of this day occurred while walking the grounds of Dunnottar Castle, playing a little tourist before the sun went down, and giving me the light I was craving. An old Scottish man was sitting in a chair and gleefully pointing at the ruins of an old church. "See that right there? That's where William Wallace burned 4,000 Englishmen alive. " I've never seen a bigger "shit-eating grin" on a man, nor a bigger sense of pride in one's culture and history. Good for him.

Like many things that are old in this part of the world, the grounds echo with the memories of all sorts of tragedies of war. Battles fought for love and country and as a response to insults. A simpler time. We in the modern world get the benefit of basking in these tales with relative safety and comfort, soaking in the cliffside views, and the sounds of the sea while reminiscing about life and escaping the internal wars of anxiety and depression we fight these days.

I can't recommend it enough. Scotland is absolutely beautiful, and you should drive through it at least once in your life. Even if they did lie about having a lake with a monster just to get me to go.

This print is perfect for those who appreciate castles, European history, and majestic seascapes and want something green and calm to wake up to.

A fine art photography print of Dunnotar castle at sunset overlooking the coastal cliffs of scotland.

The remains of the church in question where the old Scottish chap was so eager to inform me William Wallace roasted a bunch of Englishman alive.
